The Gold Coast is the canonical AU beach reunion city — 70 km of east-facing surf coast, four major theme parks, and a high-rise apartment skyline that looks like nowhere else in the country. Gold Coast Airport (OOL) at Coolangatta is 25 km south of Surfers Paradise; Brisbane Airport (BNE) is 90 minutes north and has more international connections. Reunions split between the buzz of Surfers Paradise (high-rise apartments, theme parks within 20 minutes) and the calmer Burleigh Heads / Palm Beach end (surf-village vibe, better for families with grandparents). School holidays — especially the Queensland September break — are peak.

When to go
May–October is the comfort sweet spot — 20–25 °C, dry, low humidity, whale-watching season (Jun–Oct). November–April is summer (26–30 °C with humid afternoon storms in Jan–Feb). The Queensland September school holidays are the absolute peak — book apartments 9+ months out. Christmas–New Year is also peak; Schoolies Week (mid-late November) is the one time to actively avoid Surfers Paradise — book Burleigh or Palm Beach instead.
Best for your group size
Small group · 10–25
Groups of 10–25: 3–5 apartments at Mantra on View or a single Stayz beach house in Palm Beach.
Medium group · 25–60
Groups of 25–60: 8–14 apartments on consecutive floors at Q1 Resort or Meriton Broadbeach. One unit becomes the daytime hub.
Large group · 60+
Groups of 60+: 20+ apartments at Hilton Surfers Paradise Residences or split across two adjacent towers. Theme-park days work well at this size — buy group tickets.

Reunion organizer tips
Book one entire floor of a high-rise apartment block. 8–12 apartments at Q1, Hilton Residences, or Meriton Broadbeach gives 30–40 family members ocean views, full kitchens, pools, and a single building to coordinate from. This is far better than a hotel for an AU summer reunion.
Buy the multi-park Mega Pass (Movie World + Sea World + Wet'n'Wild + Paradise Country) — usually around $130 AUD/person for 3 days, vastly better than single-day tickets if any reunion day is theme-park day.
Anchor in Broadbeach or Burleigh, not Surfers Paradise itself. Surfers is fun but loud at night; Broadbeach has Pacific Fair shopping and the casino, Burleigh has the surf-village vibe and better restaurants. Light rail connects all three.
If you have grandparents in the group, book a hinterland day — Tamborine Mountain or Springbrook. Cooler, calmer, and the rainforest skywalks are accessible.
Whale-watching reunions (Jun–Oct): book the Sea World Cruises whale-watching boat from Mariner's Cove. 3 hours, humpback sightings essentially guaranteed in the migration window.
Use Reunly to coordinate the apartment-block reunion — track who's in which unit, share the theme-park itinerary, and use the budget tool for shared groceries / dinners. /pricing.

Frequently asked
Surfers Paradise or Burleigh Heads for the reunion base?
Surfers if you want high-rise pool deck and walking-distance buzz; Burleigh if you want surf-village calm and better restaurants. Broadbeach is the middle option — quieter than Surfers, walkable to Pacific Fair shopping, and on the light-rail line.
When should we book?
9+ months ahead for Queensland September school holidays or Christmas/New Year. 4–6 months for autumn (May–June) or non-holiday winter weeks.
Is one theme-park day enough?
For a 5-day reunion, yes — one big-park day plus a Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary half-day covers it. Multi-park families: buy the Mega Pass and split into 2 days.
OOL or BNE airport?
OOL is much closer (25 km south) but has fewer international flights. BNE is 90 minutes north but has full long-haul service. For overseas relatives: BNE. For domestic east-coast: OOL.
How much does a Gold Coast reunion cost per person?
~$180–$370 AUD/person/day. Apartment-block accommodation with shared kitchens knocks 25–35% off vs hotel rooms with restaurant meals.
Does Reunly work for AU families?
Yes — currency-agnostic, SMS and email RSVPs to any country code, and the budget tool tracks per-apartment shared costs cleanly. /pricing.
