Orlando is the all-time most-popular family reunion destination in the U.S. — Walt Disney World (4 parks), Universal Orlando (3 parks including Epic Universe), SeaWorld, LEGOLAND Florida (45 min S), and the Kennedy Space Center (60 min E) all within an hour of MCO airport.

Reunions of every size do well here, but the logistics differ wildly: Disney resort buyouts for the kid-heavy reunions, off-property vacation rentals (8-14 bedroom houses) for groups wanting kitchens and private pools, or convention-tier hotels (Hyatt Regency Orlando, Rosen Shingle Creek) for groups doing multiple parks. Plan around the school calendar — early Dec, mid-Jan to mid-Feb, and mid-Sept to mid-Nov are the comfort sweet spots. Orlando's specific reunion advantage that no other US city matches: the deep inventory of 8-14 bedroom luxury vacation rentals in Reunion Resort, Champions Gate, and Encore Resort, with private pools, game rooms, and home theaters that turn a $500/night Disney room block into a $200/night-per-family vacation home with the same parks access.

Good for

  • Reunions centered on kids ages 3-14
  • Multi-generational reunions wanting parks + pool time
  • Vacation-rental reunions in 8-14 bedroom homes
  • Easy-to-reach reunions (MCO is a major hub)
  • Reunions of any size — from 8 to 200

Practical logistics

Closest Airports
Orlando International (MCO) — 8 mi south of downtown, 18 mi from Disney area; rideshare $35-60 depending on destination. Brightline rail also serves MCO with Miami/West Palm connections. Sanford Orlando (SFB) is the budget alternative for Allegiant flights.
Group Lodging
On-Disney property: Disney's Coronado Springs Resort (1,917 rooms — full convention center attached, the canonical large-reunion Disney hotel), Disney's All-Star Resorts (cheap, kid-friendly), Disney's Yacht & Beach Club (Crescent Lake walking distance to EPCOT). Off-property hotels: Hyatt Regency Orlando (I-Drive, 1,641 rooms — the canonical convention-tier reunion hotel), Rosen Shingle Creek (1,501 rooms — meeting-heavy). Vacation rentals: 8-14 bedroom houses in Reunion Resort, Champions Gate, or Encore Resort.
Best Neighborhoods
Walt Disney World Resort area — Disney-anchored reunions with free park transportation. Universal Orlando area — Cabana Bay, Aventura, Endless Summer hotels for Universal-focused reunions. International Drive (I-Drive) — convention-tier hotels (Hyatt Regency Orlando, Rosen Shingle Creek), ICON Park, dining. Reunion Resort / Champions Gate / Encore Resort (Kissimmee) — luxury 8-14 bedroom vacation rentals with private pools, the canonical big-group lodging. Lake Buena Vista — Disney Springs area, hotels like Hilton Orlando Buena Vista Palace.
Public Transit
Limited. SunRail commuter train covers downtown but doesn't reach the parks. Disney resort buses are excellent for Disney-only reunions. Universal shuttles cover Universal hotels. Off-property requires rental cars or rideshare.
Parking
Disney parking is $30/day per car for non-resort guests; resort guests park free. I-Drive and convention hotels typically include parking or charge $25-35/day.
Group Dining
T-REX Restaurant (Disney Springs — animatronic-dinosaur themed, handles 30-50), Splitsville Luxury Lanes (Disney Springs — bowling + dining for 25-50), Hard Rock Cafe Orlando (Universal CityWalk — handles 50+), Maggiano's Little Italy Pointe Orlando (Banquets program for 25-100), Cooper's Hawk Winery Orlando (Sand Lake — wine-focused private dining for 30-80).
Weather Summary
Spring (March-May): 65-85°F, dry early, increasing humidity by May, peak comfort. Summer (June-August): 75-95°F, daily afternoon thunderstorms, hurricane season. Fall (September-November): 70-85°F, dry by mid-October, ideal. Winter (December-February): 50-75°F, occasional cold fronts but mostly mild — peak season at the parks.
Safety Awareness
All major resort areas (Disney, Universal, I-Drive, Lake Buena Vista) are safe day or night and heavily patrolled. Use standard urban awareness in downtown Orlando after midnight. Vacation rental neighborhoods in Kissimmee are gated and safe.
Cost Per Person
$200-500/person/day depending on park tickets and lodging tier. A 4-day Disney+Universal reunion runs $800-1,500/person all-in for adults.
Accessibility
All Disney and Universal parks are exceptionally accessible — wheelchair rentals, ECVs (electric convenience vehicles), ride-transfer assistance, DAS (Disability Access Service) program. SeaWorld and LEGOLAND have full accessibility. Vacation rentals vary — confirm before booking.
Cell Service
Excellent everywhere; free wi-fi at all major parks and hotels.

When to go

Mid-September through mid-November (excluding Thanksgiving Week), early December (before Dec 17), and mid-January through mid-February are the comfort sweet spots — moderate crowds and weather. Avoid spring break (mid-March to mid-April), Christmas Week (Dec 22-Jan 1), summer (June-August: heat, crowds, afternoon thunderstorms), and Easter Week.

Best for your group size

Small group · 10–25

Groups of 10-25: book a Disney moderate resort (Coronado Springs, Caribbean Beach) cluster of rooms, or a single 6-10 bedroom vacation rental in Reunion Resort. Both work; Disney transport vs. private pool/kitchen is the trade-off.

Medium group · 25–60

Groups of 25-60: a 10-14 bedroom luxury vacation rental in Reunion Resort, Champions Gate, or Encore Resort (with private pool, game room, theater) is the canonical option. Or block 15-25 rooms at the Hyatt Regency Orlando (I-Drive) for a convention-hotel reunion.

Large group · 60+

Groups of 60+: the Hyatt Regency Orlando (1,641 rooms with multiple ballrooms — the canonical convention-tier reunion hotel) and Rosen Shingle Creek (1,501 rooms) are the canonical big-reunion options. Disney's Coronado Springs (1,917 rooms with attached convention center) is also large enough. Book 9-12 months ahead.

Reunion organizer tips

Decide upfront: Disney-resort reunion, off-property vacation rental, or convention-hotel reunion. These are three different trips. Disney resort reunions get free park transportation and Disney transportation (no rental cars), but cost more per person. Vacation rentals fit larger groups (8-14 bedroom homes in Reunion Resort or Champions Gate) and let everyone cook. Convention hotels work best when you're mixing parks across Disney and Universal.

Buy park tickets through a Disney/Universal Authorized travel agent or directly with park ticketing — never from third-party resellers. For Disney specifically, link tickets to your My Disney Experience account before arriving so the whole group can ride together.

Reserve Lightning Lane / Genie+ ride passes the moment they release. Disney's on-the-day system works but a coordinated group needs to plan rides in advance. Universal Express Pass (paid) is the equivalent on the Universal side and saves hours; the deluxe-tier Universal hotels (Hard Rock Hotel, Portofino Bay, Royal Pacific) include unlimited Express Pass which essentially pays for the room differential.

Anchor 1 group dinner per night, not 1 per day. A 30-person group can't eat lunch together at a theme park — it's 30 different rides at different paces. Pick a Disney Springs or Universal CityWalk dinner each night for everyone to regroup. T-REX, Rainforest Cafe, and Splitsville (Disney Springs) all handle 30+ groups. Hard Rock Cafe Orlando at CityWalk is the Universal alternative.

If your reunion has small kids and older relatives, the Disney + Disney Springs base wins. Walking distance from rooms to monorail/buses to parks; older relatives can stay back at the resort pool while parents do parks. Add ONE Universal day if there are teens — Epic Universe, opened 2025, is the headline park for 2026.

Build in one non-park day. Discovery Cove (swim with dolphins), Kennedy Space Center, or a vacation-rental pool day prevents burnout. Kids and adults alike need a slow day after 2 park days back-to-back.

Photo locations for big group shots: the Cinderella Castle entrance plaza at Magic Kingdom (early-morning rope drop is best for photo without crowds), the Tree of Life at Animal Kingdom, the Hogwarts Castle backdrop at Islands of Adventure, the Vacation Rental community pool at Reunion Resort or Encore Resort, and the Lake Eola Park fountain in downtown.

Plan for hurricane season. June 1-November 30 is officially hurricane season; peak risk is August-October. Refundable hotel reservations are the rule. Disney has well-defined hurricane policies — the parks rarely close, but check refund policies on park tickets and vacation rentals. Buy travel insurance for any reunion booked August-October.

Best months: late October through mid-November (between Halloween crowds and Thanksgiving Week), early December (before holiday-week peak), late January through mid-February. Avoid Memorial Day weekend, July 4th week, the week of Halloween, Thanksgiving Week, the entire week of Christmas Day through New Year's Day, and Easter Week.

Budget tier: Disney's All-Star Resorts (~$140/night) plus 1-day Park Hopper, eat at Disney Springs counter-service. Premium tier: Disney's Grand Floridian Resort or Four Seasons Orlando, 4-day Park Hopper Plus, private VIP guide ($600+/hour) for one Disney day, Discovery Cove for a milestone day. Vacation-rental tier: 12-bedroom Encore Resort home (~$1,200/night, sleeps 30) splits to under $200/night per family.

Frequently asked

What's the best neighborhood for a family reunion in Orlando?

Walt Disney World Resort area for Disney-anchored reunions (free park transportation, walkable). Universal Orlando area for Universal-focused reunions (Epic Universe opened 2025). Reunion Resort, Champions Gate, or Encore Resort (Kissimmee) for 8-14 bedroom luxury vacation rentals — the canonical big-group lodging. International Drive (I-Drive) for convention-tier hotel reunions. Lake Buena Vista is the Disney Springs alternative.

Which Orlando hotels have meeting rooms big enough for 50 people?

Hyatt Regency Orlando (1,641 rooms, multiple ballrooms — canonical convention-tier reunion hotel), Rosen Shingle Creek (1,501 rooms with 524,000 sq ft of event space), Disney's Coronado Springs Resort (1,917 rooms with attached convention center), Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin (2,267 combined rooms), and the Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek all handle 50-2,000+ person receptions. Call group sales 9+ months out.

Is Orlando easy to get around without a car?

If you're Disney-only and staying at a Disney resort, yes — the resort transportation system covers everything. Otherwise, plan rentals or rideshare. Universal-only reunions can use Uber/Lyft + Universal shuttles. Vacation-rental reunions need cars (most properties are 10-15 min from parks). One 12-passenger van per 8-10 adults plus rideshare for individuals usually works.

What's the average cost per person for an Orlando reunion weekend?

$200-500/person/day depending on park tickets and lodging tier. A 4-day Disney+Universal reunion runs $800-1,500/person all-in for adults. Vacation rentals can drop per-person cost 30-40% versus Disney resorts. A 12-bedroom Encore Resort home (~$1,200/night, sleeps 30) splits to under $200/night per family. Reunly's budget tool tracks per-guest fees, paid status, and methods so it's clear who owes what.

Are there Orlando restaurants that take 30-person reservations?

T-REX Restaurant (Disney Springs — animatronic dinosaurs, handles 30-50), Splitsville Luxury Lanes (Disney Springs — bowling + dining for 25-50), Hard Rock Cafe Orlando (Universal CityWalk — handles 50+), Maggiano's Little Italy Pointe Orlando (Banquets program for 25-100), Cooper's Hawk Winery (Sand Lake — wine-focused dining for 30-80), and most Disney Signature Dining restaurants (California Grill, Yachtsman Steakhouse) all handle reunion-sized parties. Reserve through Disney Springs reservations or events departments 60+ days ahead.

Best time of year to host a reunion in Orlando?

Mid-September through mid-November (excluding Thanksgiving Week), early December (before Dec 17), and mid-January through mid-February. Avoid spring break (mid-March to mid-April), Christmas Week (Dec 22-Jan 1), summer (June-August: heat, crowds, afternoon thunderstorms), and Easter Week. The four major Disney crowd peaks are: Christmas Week, Easter Week, July 4th, and Thanksgiving Week — wait times double or triple.

Family-friendly things to do in Orlando when it rains?

Most Disney and Universal rides are indoor or covered (Magic Kingdom and EPCOT have less covering than Hollywood Studios and Islands of Adventure). The Orlando Science Center, Crayola Experience at the Florida Mall, ICON Park's SEA LIFE Aquarium and Madame Tussauds, the Mall at Millenia, and the Holocaust Memorial Resource Center all stay dry. Daily afternoon thunderstorms June-September last 30-45 minutes — build morning park days and afternoon resort/villa pool time.

What's the closest airport to Orlando downtown?

Orlando International (MCO) — 8 miles south of downtown, 18 miles from the Disney area. Major hub served by every airline. Sanford Orlando (SFB) is the budget alternative dominated by Allegiant Air, 30 minutes north of MCO. Brightline rail also serves MCO with Miami and West Palm Beach connections — useful for Florida-based reunions extending the trip.

Can I rent a banquet hall in Orlando under $1,000?

Yes — most hotel meeting rooms are included or heavily discounted with a 15+ room block. Restaurant private rooms at T-REX, Splitsville, Hard Rock Cafe, and Maggiano's have a food-and-beverage minimum but no separate room rental. Standalone vacation-rental clubhouses at Reunion Resort, Champions Gate, and Encore Resort include free private event space when you book the home. Kissimmee and Lake Nona standalone halls start under $1,000 for weekday or Sunday slots.

How early should I book lodging for an Orlando reunion?

For Christmas Week, Easter Week, July 4th, Thanksgiving Week, or any Disney special-event window (Mickey's Not-So-Scary, Epcot Food and Wine), book 12-18 months ahead. For peak spring (March-April), 9-12 months. For most non-event late fall or January-February reunions, 6 months is the safe window. Vacation rentals at Reunion Resort and Encore Resort book 12+ months ahead for summer and Christmas Week.
