Plan around mosquitoes. Assateague's marshes are notorious — bring DEET and long sleeves for sunset visits. The beach itself is breezy and OK; the bayside trails are buggy.
Time pony viewing for dawn and dusk. Mid-day in summer, ponies are usually out of sight in the dunes. 6:30–8 AM and 6:30–8 PM are the windows. Stay 40 ft away — they kick.
Plan one Ocean City Boardwalk evening for kids. The 3-mile boardwalk has rides, fries, and old-school arcades — the easy non-beach reunion evening.
