Grand Teton sits just ten miles south of Yellowstone and offers a more concentrated, less sprawling reunion experience. The Teton Range rises abruptly from the valley floor with no foothills, so you get postcard mountain views from almost every lodge, picnic spot, and overlook. The park is small enough (310,000 acres) that families can stay in one place — Jackson Lake Lodge, Colter Bay, or Jenny Lake — and reach hikes, boat rides, and wildlife drives in under 30 minutes.

When to go
Mid-June through September. June still has snow on Cascade Canyon trails; July and August are warm and dry; September has fewer crowds and the aspens turn gold around the third week.
Best for your group size
Small group · 10–25
Groups of 10-25 fit in 3-4 Jackson Lake Lodge cottages or 2 vacation rentals in Jackson.
Medium group · 25–60
Groups of 25-60 should look at Colter Bay Cabins (a cluster of 100+ cabins) or split between Jackson Lake Lodge and Signal Mountain Lodge.
Large group · 60+
Groups of 60+ are best served with a private vacation rental compound in Jackson plus day-use of the park; the in-park lodges are not large enough on their own.

Reunion organizer tips
Pair Grand Teton with Yellowstone if your group has a full week — they share an entrance fee and are 60 minutes apart. Most reunion organizers do 3 nights Teton + 4 nights Yellowstone, in that order (Teton lodging is harder to get).
Stay at Jackson Lake Lodge if you have older relatives or kids under 6. The view from the main lobby is the best lobby view in the park system, and you don't have to drive to enjoy it.
Book Snake River float trips and Jenny Lake shuttle reservations in advance. Both fill up by mid-morning in summer — make a single reservation for the whole group at one operator.
Use Mormon Row for the family photo. T.A. Moulton Barn with the Tetons behind it is the best multi-generational shot in the West. Go at sunrise (6:30 AM in July) — empty parking, soft light, no other photographers in your shot.
Plan a low-energy day. Days 2 and 3 of any reunion need a slow lake-and-lobby day — Colter Bay swim beach, lakeside picnic, and 4 PM cruise back works well for groups of every age.
Consider Jackson, WY for overflow. The town of Jackson is 12 miles south of the park entrance with hundreds of vacation rentals; works well for the part of your group that wants restaurants, shopping, and the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar.

Frequently asked
When is the best time for a Grand Teton family reunion?
Mid-July through early September. July and August are warm and dry; September has fewer crowds and the aspens turn gold around the third week. June can still have snow at higher elevations.
How far in advance should we book lodging?
12 months ahead, especially for Jenny Lake Lodge and Jackson Lake Lodge. Colter Bay Cabins (100+ cabins) sometimes have summer openings 6-8 months out. Inside that window, look at Jackson, WY vacation rentals.
How much does a Grand Teton reunion cost per person?
Plan on $250-450/person/day for in-park cottages plus food and activities. Jackson rentals can be cheaper per night but require more driving. The $35 vehicle entrance fee is good for both Grand Teton and Yellowstone for 7 days.
Is the park accessible for older relatives?
Yes — many of the best views (Mormon Row, Oxbow Bend, Signal Mountain summit, Jackson Lake Lodge lobby) are drive-up or short flat walks. Several boardwalks and the east-shore Jenny Lake Trail are wheelchair-friendly.
What is the closest airport?
Jackson Hole Airport (JAC) is the only commercial airport actually inside a U.S. national park — 10 minutes from the south entrance. Idaho Falls (IDA) is 2 hours and Salt Lake City (SLC) is 5 hours but often cheaper.
Should we combine Grand Teton with Yellowstone?
If you have at least 6 nights, yes. They share an entrance fee, are 60 minutes apart, and most reunion groups do 3 nights Teton + 4 nights Yellowstone. Book Teton lodging first — it is the harder one to secure.
